Talent

Ironhack is a leading global EdTech company that has successfully trained diverse career changers, and helped companies build and manage their tech talent pipeline since 2014. Headquartered in Miami, Ironhack has graduated over 10,000 alumni, transforming their lives and guiding them into their new careers in technology.

Active in our efforts to close the gender gap in tech, Ironhack keeps diversity and inclusion as core to our mission and values. The gender gap in technology is larger today than it was in 1984; women comprise only 19% of STEM graduates and 25% of computing roles. In a survey by Stack Overflow, women accounted for only 5% of the 80,000 surveyed engineers. Moreover, the lack of diversity translates into suboptimal work environments for women - fifty percent of women have said they have experienced gender discrimination at work.

We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to build a fulfilling career regardless of their background and previous experience. And while raising awareness to the barriers faced by underserved groups is critical, little is going to change without action. The FemTech Movement provides equal and accessible tech education to those ready to make a change. We believe that partner and community support of the FemTech Movement is paramount to creating systemic and long lasting change within the tech industry. Our priorities are broken down into three categories: (1) A global scholarship program where at least 50 women in Miami-Dade County will be provided financial access to tech education via an Ironhack bootcamp on Web Development or Data Analytics, (2) Host at least five local Women in Technology events to foster relationships and community awareness surrounding this program between September 2022 and August 2023 with local partners. The following is a list of local partners that have pledged their support to the FemTech Movement: eMerge Americas, MediaQuery, Everymundo, Tribal Scale, and Bootup, and (3) Launch our first ever Female mentoring program, pairing women in the program with successful technology professionals in the local community. Through this initiative, we believe we will successfully increase the number of female tech graduates by at least 30% and further develop the local community of FemTech professionals. We understand that in order to drive meaningful and long lasting change that will lead to increased representation (and a narrowing gender gap) this commitment must remain so long as the disparity exists. As a result, the programming around the FemTech Movement is built into our core mission and programming.

Impact

Fast forward to the present, exactly a year after I started my Ironhack journey, I am working for a company in a role that I never knew was possible. I’m financially secure and finally have a career, not just a job. Sometimes it takes stepping backward and reevaluating your situation to find that there are other opportunities that you may of never realized were possible. Today, I am extremely grateful that I decided to take that leap of faith and invest in myself.

Kellie Parker, Ironhack Grad

Current Metrics

In 2021, 36% of program participants identified as women.

Historically, the program provided scholarships to 55 women who graduated and transformed their careers as a result.

Ironhack has directly funded $200,000 in scholarship funds to over 175 women in the U.S. (primarily Miami, FL) in the past 6 years.
