Miami Connected is a collective impact initiative that represents a unified effort to make Miami-Dade the most technologically inclusive county in the nation. Currently, more than one in five Miami-Dade County residents are disconnected from the internet, and in some historically marginalized residents, this figure is one in two residents. The initiative is working to increase access to at-home broadband internet as the first building block to digital inclusion. It is doing this by connecting families with no-cost or low-cost internet services. At the same time, Miami Connected is convening cross-sector partners to develop and implement a regional broadband strategy to address this gap at scale. The initiative is also expanding access to digital literacy programming and career pathways through grantmaking and capacity-building with community-based organizations.

Impact

Having internet at no cost for two years is a complete blessing to our family. We have two children enrolled in school and their learning requires plenty of time online and using the internet as a resource. Internet at no cost allows us to put our funds that are normally used for the monthly payment of internet service toward other things to help our family. It eases our minds knowing that we have this for two years and we are thankful and grateful to be a part of the program.

- Camille H.

Current Metrics

1,700 families have been connected with opportunities for internet at no cost or low cost over the last 10 months.

3,000 hours of individualized digital navigation have been provided to families seeking out internet, device and digital literacy resources over the last 10 months.

30 families participated in our digital literacy pilot program over the course of 1 month.
