BWLA’s students are resilient, hardworking, and hands-on, they have the potential, capabilities, and creativity necessary to make profound contributions to science, technology, the arts, the practice of law, medicine, and any other field they dream of pursuing. The BWLA’s Excellence in STEAM Program incorporates STEAM into every facet of the student’s education, teaching them problem-solving and critical thinking skills while ensuring they have hard and soft skill proficiencies, such as coding, building and engineering robots, prototyping, material and tool selection, effective communication, project management, and leadership.
This program is an extraordinary and one-of-a-kind combination of the most effective STEAM education methods and leadership training. At the core of everything the school does and every program they offer, is the importance of being a true leader and what it means to embody that spirit. Brent Wright demonstrates to his students that a true leader works hard, leads by example, serves his community, and builds up the people around him. The STEAM program is an incredible addition to the school and exemplifies their commitment to helping these students become true leaders with successful careers and happy lives, while also bringing together a community of teachers, classmates, and family that is cheering them on as they discover their limitless potential and talents.

Impact
“I love going to STEM class, it is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
Current Metrics
Establish a baseline for each student that demonstrates their understanding of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math (S.T.E.A.M.).
Introduce all 200+ K-8 BWLA students to STEAM through weekly classes which focus on hands-on STEAM projects.
Each student successfully builds and tests 1 grade appropriate STEAM project using the "Think, Design, Build" method and then describes to the instructor how the project connects to their personal interests, goals, and talents.
