Over the next 20 years, 3 million new software engineers will enter the tech industry. We have a critical opportunity to build a broader, more inclusive pipeline of talent that reflects the diversity of our communities.
We must launch 1 million Black, Latino/a, and Indigenous young people into competitive technical careers, unlocking over $1.5 trillion in wealth creation. Our long-term vision is to make the industry’s most competitive technical roles reflect the diversity of the population in Miami-Dade County and beyond.
To help colleges achieve stronger career outcomes for students, CodePath will implement our Pathway to Tech program. With initial support from the Knight Foundation, CodePath will partner with three Miami-based universities – Florida International University (FIU), Florida Memorial University (FMU), and Miami Dade College (MDC) – in order to: (1) Build a culture of structured technical interviewing practice; (2) Launch an industry-aligned, beginner-friendly web development course; and (3) Launch early paid work opportunities for employers and students in Miami.
Through these program elements, our partners will see a measurable difference in employment outcomes and diversity in entry-level tech jobs within three years. Our aim is to equip our university partners for sustainable change, and to build a tech talent pipeline that connects determined and capable Miami residents to meaningful career pathways in the fast-growing tech sector, in Miami and nationally.

Impact
“Having been able to be part of CodePath’s Summer Internship for Tech Excellence (SITE) with Workday has been the most rewarding experience for me. I got to learn so many things about web development, and I had the privilege to meet and work with some amazing fellow interns. At the beginning of the summer I had zero experience with web development, but by the end of it my group and I had built an amazing website all by ourselves. I would recommend to anyone who is either curious or passionate about CS to engage with CodePath and all of the resources they have to offer because it will open endless doors with endless opportunities!”
Current Metrics
We will impact at least 2,200 college students with our Pathway to Tech program between 2022-2026 or in 5 years.
65% of juniors who complete a CodePath course land technical internships during their college careers and/or within 6 months of college graduation.
65% of graduating CodePath students secure technical employment within 6 months of college graduation.

Goals
Demographic
We serve college students in Miami-Dade County who have the largest historic barriers to success in tech – those who identify as Black, Latino/a, and Indigenous from low-income or first-generation backgrounds.
Funding Goal
We are seeking $3M to deepen Miami’s Tech Talent Pipeline over the next 4 years – building a more equitable education pathway for 2,200+ college students and helping Miami further establish its reputation as a hub for top tech talent.
Impact Goal
This project aims to serve 2,200 computer science students based in Miami-Dade County in the next 4-5 years, scaling from 200 students per year to 700 students per year.
